I made this cake for a sweet girl in my daughter’s class at school. All her mum asked for was a water/swim pool party cake.

Was a bit nervous about whether or not the little girl would like it, as my daughter piped up (as we were driving to the party) saying that the little girl thought she was having a mermaid cake! Yikes. Thankfully she did like it even if there were no mermaids in sight.

Lots of little touches on this cake, but two very good ideas came from my daughter’s – my 7 year old recommended that I add a duck in the pool and my 9 year old said to add the water drips. Have to give credit where it’s due, as both were excellent suggestions and funnily enough the two bits of detail that seemed to get the most attention! I think I’d better watch out, smarty and better cake makers coming up through the ranks!
