This was my contribution to the collaboration Love Around the World 2015, and was inspired by the Greek myth of Baucis and Philemon. Granted a wish by the gods to never be apart, and to die together, they changed into trees upon their death, their branches intertwining, binding them together forever. I can count the number of times I’ve done anything with human faces on one hand, so that was the biggest challenge for me – to not only sculpt them well, but to impart emotion. I wanted my peaceful tree lovers to reflect not only unity, but harmony and contentment. I was totally intimidated about making the trees as ‘people’ and to get the emotion I wanted, but I think I got it. :)
