This is my flamingo, the cake I made for Cake International Manchester in class A- International. I’ m very glad that it got a Gold Award and 2nd place in its class.
It was inspired by the flamingos of the Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve, in Lisbon, enriched with some elements from Portuguese culture. On its body we can see four of the most important monuments of Lisbon – Torre de Belem (Belem Tower), Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries), Sé de Lisboa (Lisbon Cathedral) and Cristo Rei (Christ the King) – all hand painted in blue like the traditional “azulejos” (portuguese ceramic tiles).
Also represented are some traditional forms of workmanship, like Viana’s hearts filigree, Castelo Branco embroidery, and the Portuguese pavement, as well as some patterns usually seen in ceramic art.
I hope you like it! :)
