I thought I would escape the Frozen theme but alas, no… A very good client asked for two Frozen themed cakes for her daughters’ birthdays recently and wanted them to match the outfits the girls would be wearing..Anna for Michela 7 and Elsa for Kyla 5…and I could not say no.
Luckily though, the mom provided dolls that were just to be dressed in fondant with cake skirts…at least I thought it was a lucky thing at first. Turns out, I am no pattern or dress maker so they took super long to do…over 8 hours each.
The cakes ended up being slightly too tall for the dolls as the measurements the mom gave me were off by just over an inch…enough to still make a huge difference (I should have double checked the mom’s measurements before baking – lesson learned!!) If I inserted them in the centre of the cakes as planned, the skirts would have looked proportionately too long. I did not want to just trim off the cake either as it would mean less servings than what I’d promised, so I ended up sitting the dolls towards the front of the cake and decided to make the skirts more “flowy” (loosely inspired by Ipoh Bakery), to disguise the fact that there was a huge mound of cake in the back.
Posting Elsa in a bit…
