Yeah! I won second place at The Big Cake Show in Exeter soo happy.
This cake was inspired by a recent visit to Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast where I learnt about Mary Anning. She was a famous fossil collector and palaeontologist selling her finds on the sea front where she lived. She nearly died in a landslide in 1833 that killed her dog Tray. The cake shows the story of one of her most amazing finds a whole Plesiosaurus skeleton shown on the cake and how the dinosaur looked whilst it was alive. You can see this in the museum there which is on the site of where her house used to be.
It has airbrushing, hand painting on and each little bone and stone is hand made. Some of the ammonites are made using a mould I made from a real one that I bought in Lyme Regis, the others are hand made. I used Coco butter and colour powders to do the painting and this is the first time I had used this method.
