Cupcake Sheet Cake

I tried this for the first time today. It was easy peasy and I thought I would share.

I took 17 cupcakes and fit them together as snugly as possible.

After I settled on where I wanted them, I put a tiny bit of icing to anchor to the cake board.

I used a piece of wax paper and a fondant smoother to press the cupcakes down and secure to the board. (A paper towel should work also)

I used a pastry bag, no tip, and outlined the edges of the cupcakes.

I then used my icer tip (I love my icer tip! You want one of these!) and I filled in the empty spaces.

I iced smooth, and then used my trusty Viva Paper towel to smooth out.

I was making a train cake and needed 2 lines perfectly parallel to each other.
I cut the middle tines off a plastic fork and dragged it through the buttercream to outline the rails of the train tracks. (Pretty clever huh?!)

I had great fun working on this cake. There are tutorials on youtube on how to make the train. (It was originally designed for a baby boy cake topper, Mine was for a big boy (55) who loves trains)

I have been wanting to try this technique for quite sometime. For a party, you just pull away the cupcakes! Everyone can help themselves! I am so excited about all the new possibilities in cake! I hope you find this helpful!
Sincerely,
