CakesDecor Flashback 2014 #1: Benefits

As any of us who have been up all night making gum paste flowers know, cake decorating can be a really lonely business. A website like Cakes Decor is an invaluable resource to us because it’s an active and supportive community of like-minded people at various stages in their cake making journey. Whether you need a foolproof recipe for something or you’re proud of your work and want to share your latest creation, the Cakes Decor community is there to help and support you through it all.

The site launched in October 2011, and since then it has grown to a community of over 23,000 cake decorators all over the world. All those cake decorators are actively taking part here – thus far they’ve made over 816,000 comments on more than 162,000 cakes that have been shared. Cake Decor also hosts over 1,600 blog posts, has 900+tutorials on the site and there are more than 800 forum topics that have been discussed. It’s like a cake makers paradise, with new things to learn, new people to meet and plenty of cakes to be inspired by.

A number of new or amateur cake makers have used Cakes Decor as a platform for raising their profiles and building their own fan bases. Once they get involved in the community they don’t stay new or amateur for very long. A major advantage to being part of a website like this one is the immense social reach it has and that it’s members can tap
into. Cakes Decor currently has Facebook fans in excess of 346,000 and more than 8,100Twitter followers. If Pinterest is more your style, we’ve got over 22,000 followers there as well. Our sister site CakeDecorPros is a great marketing tool for your business if you’ve got one – it’s our online visual directory of cake decorators from all over the world, where people looking to purchase cakes can easily find decorators in their area. There are so many different opportunities to build and grow your skills as well as your profile by being a part of Cakes Decor.

As an example, a really popular feature of Cakes Decor is the ‘Daily Top 3’ where we showcase cakes from our members. On average the cakes featured there get more than 1000 views on the page, as well as 3000 views via our Facebook page – which are numbers that most local cake decorators would not normally be able to achieve on their own. There are so many opportunities to share your cakes via our website and to be featured. Our Editor picks some to feature as part of the monthly newsletter and we often have Themes where we share cakes of a certain style or event. We also share the work of a specific cake decorator each week and they get fantastic exposure right on the front page of the website as our ‘Decorator of the Week.’
