This is my contribution to “La Historia de la Moda” (The History of Fashion) Collaboration.

I chose the decade of the 1940’s. First half of the decade is represented by the bottom tier. A period of time strongly influenced by the restrictions on manufacturing materials imposed during World War II until its end on 1945.

The second tier represents a period of transition; in USA that transition took a couple of years until 1947 when restoration of woman’s glamour represented by the figurine took place.

I invite you to check out all the creations that make this collaboration: @collaborationsugarartists on facebook.

During World War II, heavy restrictions were put in place on manufacturing materials. The 1930’s outfits were retailored, less fabric was used, shorter skirts, slim fitting pants, no cuffs, no hoods, less buttons, pleats and zippers, no leather. Gray, deep maroon or undyed white or beige fabrics were more commonly used.
Once the war was over in 1945, woman’s glamour was restored thanks to Christian Dior in his famous 1947 collection called “New Look”, notable for the very small waists, skirts were enormous in their fullness and narrow shoulders.

Love, light and good vibe!!
