For my inspiration I chose Gregorian chant. Gregorian chant is a simple medieval religious harmony sung, in Latin, by choirs of monks. Gregorian chant is written in neumes, an early form of musical notation.

My cake features the pointed arch of the traditional Gothic windows and elaborate sculpture of the medieval monasteries and cathedrals in which the chants were originally sung. The second tier is the musical nuemes notation with the illuminated lettering that the monks drew to illustrate their hand-copied bibles and manuscripts. On top are more Gothic arches and a monk with his head bowed and hands held together in humility.
