Hi. My name is Kasia and I’m the owner of Planet Cakes . I’m originally from Poland, now living with my family in Uk. Planet Cakes is a small but personal baking business specialising in beautiful handmade bespoke cakes, cupcakes, cookies and pies for any occasion. I take great pride in presentation of my work and attention to details. About this piece: My piece representing one of the most unusual polish folk instrument. “Devil’s fiddle” is typical to Kashubian region. A musical tool used to make the so-called ritual uproar. According to the legend, the Kashubian “devil’s fiddle” was the favorite instrument of witches, because its shape resembles a broomstick, on which allegedly witches were flying. Nowadays used as a percussion instrument in folk bands in Kaszuby and a symbol of the region’s musical identity. A violin contour in the shape of an eight cut out of a plank with a tin cube filled with some rattling material attached to it fixed to a wooden rot ,with two wire strings supported by a bridge, two cymbals and two buzzers crown the rod. The strings and the body are stuck with a wooden corrugated club. The instrument is painted with colorful motives , mostly geometrical, embellished with ribbons, topped with a cardboard mask reminiscent of a human head shape, with hair , mustache, beard from fur and a conical cap, club-bow ending in a zoomorphic element (reminiscent of a herring’s head) As an inspiration to decorating cake board I used traditional Kashubian embroidery pattern. Pattern is hand piped with royal icing
