Created for Cake International, Birmingham (November 2016), this piece was inspired by the beautiful autumnal colours in my local area. To add character, humour and a sense of story, I decided to do it as a sequel piece to my Sweet Summer Collaboration piece, the Grumpy Pug.
He is entirely edible (including the pumpkin seeds which are made of sugarpaste) and gave me the opportunity to try out some new techniques, including casting my own leaf moulds to make veiners and experimenting with wafer paper and piping gel to create the pumpkin innards.
There were times when I nearly threw the towel in with this cake, so I was completely blown away to be awarded a silver at the show, particularly when I saw the standard of the other silvers across the categories.
Thanks for looking and sorry I haven’t been around for a while… ❤️

A very well deserved silver. The detail on this cake is brilliant. I am pleased you didn’t throw the towel in- it’s a pleasure to view
