This cake was new territory for me because it was (a) a 20cm cube (b) a double barrel © it had to be red, red, red AND (d) not girly. For a very sweet and elegant lady’s 40th, I had three days from concept to finish.
I didn’t want to use too much black (my husband’s footy team colours!!!) and no red and white because it’s too chrismasty. The lady likes Australian native flowers… Primarily banksias which would’ve taken at least 10 days to dry.
So I chose to make a sugar version of her (-ish), bas relief on the cake in red and antique silver and well, here it is.
I also learnt that red is a very hard colour to click.
