All Saints Church Cake

This Boozy Fruit cake was requested for our village Curate’s leaving tea in Houghton, Hampshire. It is all carved cake which is covered in a layer of marzipan and the rest is applied with royal icing using paintbrushes, piping bag and pallet knives and the windows and roof were painstakingly scratched and scraped out once the icing was nearly dry to create the frames and tiles. Time consuming but enjoyable as I love playing with textures.

The colours are applied with dry dusting powders and blended in with a paintbrush and a little water.

I came up with this idea as a way to create old stone walls in the middle of the night many years ago when I was making an old castle cake. Ever since then I have preferred it to fondant on building cakes.

This church is featured on another cake in my collection – but a painted version of it. I have included a photo of the actual church in the gallery (the cake is not exact).

Good job Fiona xx Really quaint, and just like the church.
Reminds me of the cottage set my Mum has. She’s got a teapot, milk and sugar and salt and pepper in just the same shades as this xx Love it!!
I found a photo on google to show you what I mean.

You’re cake also reminds me of those David Winter cottages and churches that have so much detail too.
So much work and patients, and I bet they absolutely loved it too xx
