Hello! :)
I was asked to make this cake by a famous cake magazine. The invitation said that I was expected to show a thing that had never been seen.
I asked myself these questions: “What is it that cannot be seen? What is the thing that we usually fail to see?” And the answer came to me: in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives we often fail to recognize beauty wrapped up in a plain cover. Fortunately, however, there are painters, sculptors, and jewelers who notice it and bring it to us. Would we see a beautiful diamond in an ordinary stone had it not happened to land into the hands of a jeweler? Would we enjoy the beauty of wonderful sculptures had the masters of chisel not created them out of a piece of marble?
So, I came up with the idea of a Giant Cupcake with a difference that I bring to your attention.
I sincerely hope that you will like it too! :)
The rock is carved out of polystyrene; the cupcake itself is edible, while the surface is made of sugar modeling paste. The hammer and the chisel are made of gum paste. Both instruments have a bamboo skewer inside that supports them. The colors are made of food dyes. Everything is made by hand, without molds.
Brilliant interpretation!
