LightHouse

LightHouse

This is the cake I made for my Mother & Father in Laws birthdays this year.

They both love things beachy and nautical…I looked round their house and there are a lot of lighthouse shaped accessories and the idea was born!

This cake was 18" high from top to bottom. The lighthouse was baked from a sheet cake and then I cut decreasing circles using cutters and then carved the excess away. There is a central dowel that runs from the base board, through the dummy and almost to the top of the cake, ending where the light begins. Each layer is filled with buttercream and Jam. I then covered the cake with white chocolate ganache and then sugarpaste. The light was supposed to turn but I couldn’t get the voltage right on the motor so it just flashed instead.

The sea is painted with various blues and a little bit of gold dust – though you can’t see it. The boat was made with a mix of modelling chocolate and gumpaste.

They were both overwhelmed with the cake, it left them temporarily speechless – if you know my Mother in Law then you will know that is an achievement in itself :D

I hope you like :)
