Well when a 4-year old birthday girl was having pony rides at her birthday party, there was only one cake that her mum wanted to have for her. She specifically didn’t want it to be ‘over the top’ so I tried to keep it as ‘tame’ as possible. She asked for pastel pink blue and yellow on a 9" Victoria Sponge.

The carousel is hand modelled from sugar with Gumpaste. I used a mix of modelling chocolate and gumpaste for the horses.

The client wanted the cake itself to be simple, soft and pretty. At our village coffee morning last week a lady was selling pretty ribbon and this wide sheer ribbon caught my eye as I thought it would soften the whole thing up.

The topper is royal iced together so can be lifted off as one piece. I hope and pray it reached its destination safe and sound today .. waiting with baited breath. You know what it’s like..! UPDATE. Just received a phone call from Eleanor who is over the moon and all the children loved it. Pony rides were enjoyed by all the children and the topper arrived intact! Whew!! :)
