Let me start off by saying that our family surname is “McEwan” and I made this cake for my husband’s birthday last month. All the items on the cake relate to him: Nessie the Monster (‘cause she’s a Scott!), sheep (apparently back in the day, the McEwan’s were sheep steelers!!), a tree trunk (the tree of life represented on the McEwan emblem), the Scottish flag, and of course the McEwan tartan border which is printed on edible icing paper.
We nearly had a moment when we presented it to him as he thought he was 57 and not 56. A quick sum on the calculator proved him wrong – phew! Thought for a moment I was married to a much older man!!
The cake was a carrot cake and needless to say, he absolutely loved it! Thanks to my son for making Nessie :-)
