Thank you so much Heba M Elalfy for this fun and super collaboration. How lovely to see all the creations from around the world! I chose Zimbabwe because it is where I was raised, educated, got married and had two of my three children. These are two fruit cakes, marzipanned and royal iced for the family. The decorations are made with gum paste. Santa has a little modelling chocolate mixed in with the gum paste. The flame lily is the national flower of Zimbabwe and is in full flower at Christmas time.

On Christmas Day in Rural Zimbabwe, the focus is strongly on the Church and visiting each other’s homes. The houses are usually decorated with ivy and I decided to make a decorated Baobab tree for fun. The Ndebele tribe sometimes paint the outside of their homes during the course of the year with flowers or patterns. Zimbabweans love to celebrate with music and dance and play music really loudly outside their homes. They commonly give hand made gifts to one another. So I have made the ‘children’ and ‘reindeer’ in the style of Zimbabwean craft that they make themselves. The painted dancers are based on a picture I found on the net. Izilokotho Ezihle Zamaholdeni to you all! xx
