Hello! My son is mad on this footballer, and wanted him as his birthday cake. “What, like on a pitch, a little figure..?” Said I. " No, Mummy, I want him, his face.." I said I didn’t think I could, it was very tricky etc..but he said " Yeah, you can Mum".
So I thought, well I’ll have a go. And it took me 3 days of anxiety and endless looking at Paul Pogba’s picture ( which was not a hardship to be honest, he’s a fine looking young chap..). I stacked about 6 chocolate fudge cakes, covered them in ganache, and made modelling chocolate to sculpt his features. Then I airbrushed him a bit.
The support was a wardrobe rail kit from Wilko’s. You get two round brackets and a pole. I cut the pole, and screwed one bracket to an MDF base board, slotted pole in, then the other end I screwed to an MDF circle, onto which was a cake board. The cakes were supported half way by another cake board with straws as dowels. I covered the pole with cling film, then melted marshmallows and stuck RKT round for his neck.
Jeez, we need a degree in engineering for this lark. It was fairly sturdy but it didn’t have to go far, so I could just hold him on my lap. I must admit the back of his head was ahem not anatomically correct, but it was just family eating him. No pics of that bit!! Thanks for looking. Xx
