Beach Huts, Bunting and a Boat

Beach Huts, Bunting and a Boat

I made this cake one very cold January week, when I was desperate for a bit of summer sun. It was a display cake for my portfolio so I had no brief and the design happened on it’s own. When I started out, I just had one goal in mind: I had to develop the design using what limited tools I had at the time. No new gadgets! This was done with a couple of strip cutters I got free with a magazine, some small heart and star cutters, a piping nozzle and a small sharp knife.
It was also the first cake that I ever shared on Facebook. Although it wasn’t cake of the day or anything, it was well received – and I was literally jumping up and down with excitement when one of my cake hero’s left a nice comment on it. I was just so happy.
Unfortunately, this was very early on in my cake decorating career and I only ended up taking one photograph! Whoops!
