This cake was born from a decision to enter my first cake competition. I carefully read over the requirements for the completely open section and decided to play on my strengths of sculpting nature. I wanted colour and interest, and really loved the red eye tree frog. So it went…
Unfortunately I wouldn’t put the competition experience down to being positive. I was ridiculed in judging for it being a mere 1 out of 10 for creativity, and told that it could be more lifelike. Heart breaking to say the least!
I thought I would share it anyway, so that it may see the light of day once more, and maybe somewhere out there is a frog lover who will appreciate it.
The log is entirely cake, the frogs from rice crisps, all covered using a combination of fondant and modelling chocolate, then hand painted. The moss is royal icing.
Thanks :)

Oh my, I’m surprised by the remark. This cake looks very life like too me. Don’t be dismayed, and take it personal, perhaps the judge was having a bad day!!
