This was my first naked cake and I worried about it being dried out, etc. I waited to put together the cake, until 6 hours before delivery. I then wrapped it in saran wrap and let it sit in the frig to firm up a bit. Put the decorations on right before deliverying it. I heard that it was delicious and perfect. :-)
