My latest cake…a Western themed 19th birthday for the daughter of one of my longest running clients. I love having creative freedom with designs and this is one of those times. I’ve been wanting to do this theme for a while too…girly Western! I had planned some swooping dogwoods instead of my go-to blossoms but my lil monkey was quite clingy so unfortunately I had to scrap that idea as just not enough time.
I am also quite happy with the boot topper which was made to look like the birthday girl’s own using 50/50 gumpaste/fondant mix. For this reason, I could not just look for a template so instead I had to just wing it…no templates, no measuring. This time though, luckily, winging it did not mean having to do and re-do a million times lol. So I am super stoked with it and yes, may have even taken a few progress shots along the way…not enough for a full tute but definitely enough to show the process which I will work on and post here later…
Oh and the tooled leather is inspired by cakes done by the masterful Jo of Ciccio Cakes. I read up on the Tooled Leather tutorial on her page and although I had an airbrush, opted to go with the alternate option she suggests, which is to use dusts and it worked out pretty cool still (it looks better on the board but I forgot to take closeup pics)! By the way, she has TONS of fabulous tutorials on her page…all for free! Hope y’all like it!
