Presenting…THE RED CARPET COLLABORATION!

Red Carpet events are THE place to see the boldest and most stunning creations from the design industry. This collaboration is all about celebrating the genius behind the stitches and sketches by transforming fashion into cake!

My cake is inspired by a Prada dress worn by Lupita Nyong’o 2014.

I’ll admit I struggled to come up with a design at first but in the end am happy with it because it stretched me creatively!

The design of Lupita’s dress is beautifully simple in it’s line and shape and a stunner on the red carpet because of it’s cool blue colour and flowy train. I tried to capture and stay true to the essence and feel of the dress by using drapes, ruffles and pleats and little other embellishments. I just added a couple of pops of colour with the addition of some poppies which reflect the bit of gloss worn on Lupita’s lips.

Thanks to my good friend Dina of miettes who gave me pointers on creating delicate ruffles for the first time. Also would like to thank Laura of Laura Loukaides Cakes for such an awesome idea, being super organized and inviting me to join such an awesome group, honouring such an awesome institution like the Oscars through sugar art.
