This is a 10-inch 2-layer orange-almond cake frosted in a layer of white BC first, and then blended different shades of blue food color. I wanted some of the white to show through for a space effect. I used different shades on the planets, hoping they were fairly accurate, and piped a dome shape icing while adding lines of dots of other colors as needed.
I then dipped my ring finger in very warm water, and shook off excess. I lightly took that finger to smooth around edges and to make smooth. IT takes several attempts at times, and then took the edge of a paper towel to absorb any droplets of water, so the colors wouldn’t run.
I used #3 and #4 tips to outline and fill in sun, as I wanted it to look like fire on the surface and yellow bursts of fireballs due to gas on the planet surface.
I did a #4 navy beaded boarder around base of cake. #4 message on front side of cake in white BC.
*The one thing I wish I had changed, as it doesn’t look as neat, are the white lines from each planet showing their rotation… I could have as an alternative, left those out, or muted them into the blue background. Also would have used a varied size of white dots representing stars in the solar system, In place of the lines.
