Jenny loves anemones, so her daughter commissioned me to make her a cake planter overflowing with their beautiful bright blooms. This was a complete first for me. I hadn’t previously made any wired flowers so had to learn from scratch and it was quite a steep learning curve, but I was delighted with the result. 30 sugar anemones in purple, pink, red and white, each with 8 individually cut, wired, shaped, veined and dusted petals. It was quite a production line! The cake itself was a triple layer 9×13″ vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream, and it was decorated to look like a slate planter. The board was also time consuming (it’s a bit of a shame that so little of it shows!) – marbled browns were hand scored to give a wood grain effect. I then used petals dusts to give a more realistic woody depth and finished with edible lacquer. I’m so pleased with how this cake turned out. Maybe flowers are my ‘thing’ after all…? Happy Birthday Jenny :)

Thank you for looking :) x
