I often find it daunting making cakes for some of my friends. Especially when they say ‘I don’t care what you make – I trust you’ This was the case when my friend Kylie asked me to make her wedding cake. She left the entire design of the cake up to me and really didn’t give any clues as to what she wanted or didn’t want. Having also made her wedding invitations and bonbonniere, I was able to gain some inspiration from those items along with her wedding dress as I was lucky enough to have a sneak peek before the big day. Although I must admit, the image I saw was on my mobile phone and it was difficult to see much of the detail!
The main thing I wanted to capture was the Pleats as the bodice of her wedding dress had beautiful satin pleats. The back of her dress had gorgeous little buttons and Kylie had told me that those buttons was one of the things she’d loved about the dress.
The damask pattern was inspired by the bonbonniere as these were personalised chocolate bars that contained each guests name and it was also used as a place card. Kylie requested to have the crystalised cake toppers and since the top was going to have some bling, I added some rhinestones to the damask stencilling for some added bling. The top and bottom tiers were also covered in a beautiful white lustre.
The sliver and coral ribbon were used to finish off the cake and also to incorporate the colours used in the bridesmaids dresses.
The cake was a total of 4 tiers and was a White Chocolate Mud layered with White Chocolate Ganache.
