Just a small cake for my Hubbie’s 48th Birthday and my first sailing themed cake!!! It is always difficult for me to find a theme for a man’s cake (I am more of a flowers and frills cake kind of girl!!) but once I decided on the sailing theme I really enjoyed making this cake, and I love how it turned out.
Craft magazines are a great source of inspiration in fact I found the design for the light house and the sailing boat toppers from such a magazine. They were actually designs for a decoupage project, which I adapted for this cake!!
Seagulls are not a familiar feature on Maltese coasts, but this summer I have been to Brighton, England, and was amazed by the amount of Seagulls I saw there, so I included them on this cake as a reminder of our lovely time there.
I don’t know exactly when the idea of the little dog looking out at sea came to my mind but once it got there it just stuck. So here he is, the little puppy waiting patiently on the quay for his master to return from a day out sailing.
