This was a last minute emergency cake for a young lady celebrating her 18th birthday. Unfortunately, another cake maker was unable to make the original cake, but I think going into labour is a good enough reason to have to say sorry I can’t make your cake after all. So, to help the cake maker and the mum of the birthday girl I couldn’t say no.
The young lady has had a doll like the one in the top of the bag since she was a baby and takes it everywhere with her. This kind of reminded me of my own children and their night time animals and dolls, which always seem to go missing at bed time and you spend a frantic 10 minutes trying to find them for fear that the little darlings won’t go to sleep without them. Anyway, so when the mum told me about the doll, I knew it was something that we had to include. She is also a huge fan of Richard Branson, so we also had to include a reference to him.
This cake was a bit of a challenge, it’s one of those cakes that doesn’t look all that difficult, which was what I originally thought, but there was lots of elements – carving, covering, measuring and the making of the accessories to make it all come together. The chain was also a bit of a challenge, not only making it, but attaching it to the cake without breaking it!
Anyway, thanks for looking and I hope you like it.
