This cake was made for the Pensacola Cake CRUMBS Competition in 2010. The theme was fairy tales so I created a version of Shrek & Fiona’s wedding cake. Shrek’s side featured hand-made edible beetles, earthworms, torn rags, moths, an onion topper, and a snail border (with edible snails….get it?). Fiona’s side was elegant and dainty with pleating, buttons, bridgeless stringwork, Oriental stringowork, and quilting. The cake won 1st Place Professional Division, Crowd’s Favorite, and Best of Show. To this day, it’s still one of my favorites because it was so fun to make!
