Divergent Cake – Faction before blood!

I’ve gotta say I had no idea what the customer was talking about when she first asked for this theme. But I always say – you learn things everyday in cake artistry!

This cake is completely hand cut and hand painted. I had the option to do an edible print as the cake photo the customer brought in, but I wanted to make it special. All the ‘Factions’ – the symbols are free hand painted on the discs and the main faction is hand cut. The ‘factions’ give the person a characteristic and a special power and the birthday boy has ‘Amity’ as his main characteristic. The last photo are the actual symbols for the factions.

Useless info: Divergent is a series of books like the Twilight Saga, the Hunger Games etc…it is soon to come out in a movie. There are 5 factions or characters or super powers and the person takes on a particular character. They each take on a character or power. The story is set in the city on Chicago – Illinois. It is very popular with teenagers, and I don’t exactly know too much about them. My kids are still babies at the Peppa pig and Lego phase so haven’t moved into this stage yet!
