There have been so many different minion cakes designed that it’s getting harder and harder to come up with something a little different. Ben is minion mad and his mum wanted a cake that they could eat at the party, but she didn’t want him to become upset about the minion being cut. So, I suggested that the minion on top be made using a polystyrene dummy, so that it could be removed and kept for Ben to enjoy looking at for months to come.
Being a mum of young children and very aware of how food colouring and sugar can alter their behaviour, I was concerned about using black icing on the cake, so I decided to use grey and airbrush black at the bottom, with the hope that this wouldn’t be too much food colouring for the children.
I love how the bananas turned out and the little bit of comedy where one of the small minions has slipped on a banana skin, and the other one is laughing at his misfortune. I also like that the large minion is holding a banana and licking his lips. It makes me feel like there is a healthy eating message for the kids in there somewhere as well.
