First of all I would like to say that Lisa Templeton’s gorgeous roses (https://www.facebook.com/LMCake) inspired me to make this rose. Her super cool petal drying set up really helped me with this flower. I have made it before and was moderately happy with it. However while there is certainly room for improvements but I must admit that I did the happy dance when I finished this one.

Materials Needed

7 2.5 inch styrofoam ball cut in half
1 18 gauge wire
1 2.25 inch circle cutter
1 2.50 inch circle cutter
1 rose veiner

To Make the petals you must roll out the gumpaste to the last setting on the pasta machine or so that it is translucent if you are rolling it out by hand

Set up the petal former with six balls like the picture
Cut one ball in half and insert 18 gauge wire in the bottom, use glue from a glue gun to attach the wire, let it dry for at least 10 minutes
Cover the top of the cut ball with fondant

Cut out as many petals as need to fill the centre with the smaller circle …cut out the circle bend it in half and then a half again. Attach to the folded circle to the centre with gum glue in a spiral fashion. Be sure to attach the folded circle to the edge of the cut styro ball. Fill the ball with the folded circles to create the centre.

Next cut 14 more of the smaller circle and soften the top edge with the ball tool, vein and then cup with the ball tool and place on the Lisa Templeton drying system. Leave until the petals/circles are able to hold their own shape. Then place 7 petals with base of the styro ball. These should overlap and should be at the same height of the centre circles. Make a second row of 7. You may need more than 7 petals per row.

For the last row cut out 7 of the larger circles soften the edges and vein then dry and then attach.
It is very useful to look at picture while making this flower and Pintrest is filled with may examples. Every bridal bouquet seems to have this flower nowadays.
