I created this cake for my big sister’s baby shower which we celebrated this past fall with friends and family. Since the theme was “A storybook baby shower” all guests gifted my sis with their favourite childhood story book in lieu of a card. …What a lovely collection of books she received!
To keep with the theme the cake would be created to replicate one of my sister’s favourite childhood books “Where the Wild things are”.
The overall design was based on 2 scenes from the storybook and the characters Moshi (created using a core of rice crispy treats and decorated with gumpaste) and Max are in a “wild rumpus” at the top of the cake. I used an ombre ruffle technique (which I’ve never done before) on the lower tier of the cake tipped with white colouring to replicate the ocean waves illustrated in this scene of the book.
The cake was a hit and enjoyed by all, what a lovely day it turned out to be!
