Stand up numbers

Hi

I have trouble placing stand up numbers on top of the cake. The only easy number is 1, since stick is going all the way in and makes it stable. 2,3,5,6,8,9 is a challenge.
Any tips are appreciated.

Thank you

I agree with Julez and I always make my numbers a few days ahead to give them plenty of time to fully dry out and stiffen (I am sure that is an obvious statement… LOL)

I would use heavy floral wire. It’s thin, strong and stable, and will help your numbers stand straight and firm. Any floral shop will carry the wire. I buy mine there for my gumpaste flowers. Most florists are accommodating in selling it. I wrap the end of the wire that’s going into the cake in plastic wrap. Bare wire should never go into a cake.
Hope this helps.

I use sucker sticks for all items that I need to ‘stick’ up on a cake. They are food safe and come in various sizes (I get them at Michael’s or Walmart). I agree that numbers are the most difficult; but my philosophy is that if your support shows a little, most likely you are the only one who notices:)

I use sucker sticks too Chris, but for something very thin, like numbers, etc., toothpicks are too flimsy, sucker sticks are too thick. So this is where the wire comes in.

You are right June; sometimes you just have to work with what ever does the trick:)
