Do you provide Cakes Stands for your customers?

Hello!

Do you provide or rent cakes stands to your customers who purchase their cakes from you or is that something that should be provided by the venue or customers themselves?

If you do rent them, how do you guarantee you will get them back in a timely manner?
Is it worth the effort?

Thank you very much for your time answering these questions!

Psalm 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

I’m just a hobby baker, but have a couple of friends who are In business. One, does not offer cake stands., but has directed them to local shops who sell them. The other will provide a cake stand, but strictly purchased. She didn’t want the hassle of rental and chasing the customer for return. She has a cake business and tea shop and sells cake stands and other related items. If you rented, I would think you would have to charge customer full price for the stand, with refundable amount upon return. You would have to do that to cover the cost of some possibly being “stolen”. I have made cake stands to go with my cakes…but they were part of my wedding gift to the B & G
By the way…. Love your last name. If I’m not mistaken, it’s Polish…correct?? My last name is Kowalczyk…hubby’s Polish. :o)

I don’t provide cake stands. I put all my cakes on a board that I charge the customer for.

But to give you an idea if you wanted to rent them. I use metal cake supports between my tiers and that is an item I need to get back so I took a page from Peggy Does Cake. I have them give me a separate refundable check for the cost of the plates. If they return the plates in 10 days I void the check and mail it back to them. If not I cash the check so I can buy a replacement one.

Hope this helps and gives you some ideas.

I rent them but some times they do not come back. I am thinking that there should also be a security deposit that covers the cost to replace the stand. This only solves half the problem for me as I import most of my supplies I would then have to reorder and then wait for it to get on island.

jchuck, yes, I do have a fancy last name, don’t I! My husband is Polish American.
Sugarpixy, that is my whole dilemma, I too live on an island where many visitors come to get married. I have a cupcake stand I am constantly retrieving and this past year, lost parts to it twice and have to order things and wait for them to be delivered.
I am also considering that if I do rent them out, the rental fee should cover the replacement cost of the cake stand.
