Can chocolate cake be be made without an almighty mess???? 🤔😄

A thought occurred to me while I was sitting at my kitchen table, waiting for the ganache to set on two cakes before icing, when I glanced down and caught a glimpse of my ‘working’ T-shirt. That thought was, and it’s a very serious question btw, am I the only baker on the planet who has yet to bake a chocolate cake without looking like I’ve fallen into the batter?
It’s an ambition of mine to achieve this illusive goal. So much so that I’ve made it an early new year’s resolution. But each time I make a chocolate cake I end up looking like the kid from Charlie and the chocolate Factory who falls into the chocolate river!!!
And it only seems to be chocolate batter too! I never have these problems with vanilla sponges. Is there a molecular difference between the two cakes which makes the attraction between chocolate cake and your clothes stronger???!
So, is it me?! Am I the only one. Or has anyone else observed this same phenomenon. Or Are the rest of my cake friends sitting in spotless show house kitchens wearing their Sunday best without a trace of cake batter or ganache in evidence despite being surrounded by multi tiered Belgian chocolate masterpieces as I imagine they must be?
Let me know. 🤔😉😁

I admit I get chocolate all over me more than vanilla…mostly cause of the cocoa powder. I’ve never learned to put cocoa into my mixmaster and remember to put on the cover!! 😋

Sorry can’t help you since I can’t seem to touch flour, powdered sugar or cocoa powder without spilling some. Each time I go in with such determination that this time I will not spill any. Hasn’t happened yet.

I’m feeling so much better knowing I’m not on my own. lol

Short answer…. No 😱 Even washing up after takes tons of water to get everything clean. All worth it though as tastes so good.

I had a red velvet cake to make this weekend as well so I now know a different level of messy kitchen! lol 😁

Everything I make ends up all over, no matter the flavour, I had to use the mop on the ceiling a few times (I have white plastic panelling up there so thats not as crazy as it sounds), but yeah both me and my kitchen are always covered in something that should have stayed in the mixer.

I don’t think I’ve ever had to mop anything off the ceiling but that just sounds like you lead a more exciting life than me Charlotte. lol I’m the same no matter what I’m doing though. I painted our hall a few months ago and my neighbour’s dad asked me if I’d managed to get any paint on the walls! lol
