first blog; minion wedding cake

This is one of the main reasons i started making cakes we wanted a truely unique wedding cake and i needed to find something to do at home with my ill health after nearly a year of learning it accumulated in this wedding cake. This also represented a first attempt at so many things i had never tried bows, flowers, swags using dusts and embossing rolling pins, it is fitting that this is also my first attempt at a blog. this is my little photo diary of the project i hope u like it ;

made the base from mdf with a beveled edge and routered the edge was a very large cake so supports were 19mm dowels securley screwed into potition.

base cake was vanilla and chocolate at the edges and mint choc in the middle.

the groom minion was made from vanilla sponge and the bride was cherry sponge, basic carve for the eye pieces and a crumb coat ready for the fondant.

the grooms waist coat was made using an embossing rolling pin and red sherry luster dust, this was the first use of both the rolling pin and dusts and was and continue to be a great fan of both.

used a different pattern on the wedding dress started from the top with frill also had a dust of white luster dust. eye piece are just a round of icing with a few markings for detail and sprayed silver with the airbrush.

this was my first proper attempt at a wood floor effect (costly in icing as i made a fair few mistakes before i got the technique down)

added each fold of the dress separate again using the embossing rolling pin and white luster dust

this was also a first attempt at swags, bows and flowers. swags and bows were made using an embossing rolling pin and the sherry luster dust. flowers were edged with with and red luster dust

swags, bows and flowers added and little bunch of flowers for the bride

the finished cake at the reception before the kids were let loose on it lol

I learned loads from this cake and encourage everyone to have a go at something new.

cheers for looking
