So I stubbornly said that I would not be making a Minion cake as everyone seemed to be doing it…
As it turned out, I was asked to create a cake for one of my cousins’ 21st birthday and was told that she loved Despicable Me, most importantly, she liked Gru. Resigned to the fact that I would be making a Minion cake, I started thinking of ways to still have the obvious Minions but not in a such an obvious manner. So, I decided to dress the cake itself as a Minion (no face) and on top I sat the main characters: Gru and the girls.
Note that one of them was meant to have glasses – I forgot on purpose, obviously (NOT!) :)
The cake was a tall layered cake comprising of three cakes: chocolate, raspberry and passion fruit, filled with lemon curd / raspberry jam and buttercream.
Some of the photos were taken earlier in the day before I had put in all the finishing touches; the other photos (albeit the bad quality) were taken when the cake was about to be taken to the table.

Thank you guys! Despite my reluctance to make a Minion cake, I must confess that I had a lot of fun with it.
