This was something I was making for myself for my birthday … however, I am a couple of weeks late! So, it is a combination of tasty Styrofoam and fondant instead of the intended lemon cake with a raspberry swirl and lemon SMBC!
Don Quixote has been one of my favourite literary characters for a very long time now, and had thought it might be fun to re-create him in sugar form. I based the figurine off of a statue I saw in Toledo while traveling in Spain. I only wish I had been able to see the windmills as well! I found numerous photos of the Windmills in the La Mancha region to help me.
I was so happy with how my “stuccoed” windmill turned out (and the blades too – floral wire covered in fondant), as well as Don Quixote himself. There are a few more pictures on facebook, along with descriptions.
Thanks for looking :).
