This was my first time entering at Cake International last weekend in London. I decided to enter the wedding cake class and was awarded Bronze – I was so so chuffed, and had such an amazing weekend!! I’m familiar with making roses and peonies, the wired hydrangeas were new to me so really pleased with how they turned out. I got to speak to the judges too, which was great as I was told where I had lost points – this was made using dummies, every cake is judges as if it were a real cake and I hadn’t used posy picks for my flowers. I was also told my gumpaste bow was a little too thick. The judges look for a range of different skills, so I could have added a piped border, rather than using the ribbon around the base of the tiers. All great feedback to learn from :)
