This cake was special for the fact that the immediate family all etched their name on timber slices that I had made, once I added the colour the names they stood out really well, when they all arrived at the party the little grand children especially all excitedly looked for their little piece of art that they had contributed…..Nana also has a massive Frangipani tree in her garden so I taught the older great grandchildren to make the flowers and the younger ones to colour them….it truly turned out a FAMILY creation. I will frame the slices and topper for her to keep.
The Thermomix Mud cake recipe is becoming my favourite as it stays particularly moist and covers well….. I also did a crazy thing on this cake that I only just got away with and that is I needed a round fruit cake ‘quickly’ for the top tier and our local supermarket only had square, I chopper it up roughly in the Thermo Mix and combined it (coincidently) with 2 large tablespoons of Nan’s home made marmalade and then pushed it into lined 6 inch round tin, chilled it before covering in marzipan, then fondant…. it really was a little rough around the edges to say the least but it was all I could do with what I had on hand and with the time frame I had !!! not ideal but it looked okay and actually tasted great…main thing Nan loved it !!
