I just bought some new 4” x 2” cake tins and wanted to try them out. Good excuse to make a cake, right?? One tin is equal to 2 cupcakes. So the two 4” cakes stacked, equals four cupcakes. So two cupcakes each for hubby and I. That’s not terribly bad for a little treat, don’t you think???? Got some new silicone moulds I wanted to try, and I wanted to try a new technique creating the velvet/denim look on my fondant. I’ve seen this technique done with wafer paper, but I didn’t have any on hand.
This is how I achieved the velvet/denim look:
Colour your royal icing ice blue, spread the icing out to dry on parchment paper. Then whirl up the hard royal icing pieces in a mini food processor into powder. Cover the cake in piping gel with a silicone brush. Make sure piping gel consistency isn’t too thick. Place the cake on a plate full of the royal icing powder. Pour a handful over the top of the cake and gently rub in. Then do the sides. Messy business, as there was royal icing dust all over my counter afterwards..
