This year’s Caketastics Collaboration focuses on “Social Monsters” — problems in human society. I chose endangered animal conservation. The biggest threat to the world animal population is humans. Through loss of habitat caused by human progress, pollution and poaching, we have managed to kill off 40% of the world’s animal population since 1970. My monster is this called the “Triple P” monster for Progress, Pollution and Poaching. The smoke stacks, the SUV, the toxic waste and the oil drum represent pollution. The severed elephant tusk and rhino horn and the tiger pelt and money represent poaching. The currencies show are from the countries with the highest trade in poached animal parts. The bulldozer arm represents human progress. It is scooping up a tree, representing loss of habitat. The baby animals shown are six endangered species. The Caketastics superhero is trying to fight this monster, as I am trying to help bring awareness to the problem.
