So happy to be back after my ‘unscheduled’ six month break!
I loved making this chocolate cake Buddha for a 50th birthday. All cake from head to board. The gentleman who ordered this sent a photo of an ornament and the brief was ‘Buddha cake, like this one but gold please’. I opted for an antique gold look.
The birthday girl was totally over the moon with the cake and I loved every minute of making this.
I have attached progress photos in the gallery which I hope will be helpful if you are new to carving 3D cakes. I used a 12" square sheet cake to carve the layers, and layered about five various sized pieces with ganache in between. I did not use a central dowel but you may personally feel safer with one. I made a gumpaste lotus flower for the candle and edible label. After icing the cake with fondant mixed with modelling chocolate, I dusted it then painted it. This is what it looked like before colouring :
A couple more angled photos of the finished product.
Thank you for looking!
Love to all
