This was my very first time entering Cake International, and left with a bronze award. I had a great time at the show with lovely people, will be back next year.

My piece was based on a surrealism piece of art that I came across a while ago. I had to make a few changes to it due to time so it’s not an exact replica. The letter in front of the book is a dear cigarette letter. It’s explaining how he loves them but knows they aren’t good for him, it ends in him saying he is giving up.

The letter reads

Dear Cigarettes,
Your smell and touch steals my breath away. I long for you wherever I go. Others do not approve, but they don’t understand the love I have for you. It’s hard to imagine a life without you in it. I look forward to seeing you every morning when I wake, however you’re consuming my money quite rapidly and you’re damaging my body quite quickly as well. I feel as though I need to let you go, but that choice is so difficult and almost impossible to stick to. Our last break up sent me reeling and I sobbed when I left you, so instead I sit and puff you away as my lungs grow heavier and my voice becomes raspier. You’ve always been there for me but, you’re just not right for me anymore. I just can’t keep going back and forth with you this constant battle is getting too much for me. So I’ve decided it’s time, time for me to move on and be smoke free.
