As I was searching for some inspiration for my piece I ran across the powerful and colorful Carnival in Guadeloupe.
It is part of the Afro-Caribbean heritage and a major cultural event on the islands. The festivities begin in January but costumes, choregraphies and music are prepared one year in advance: a very anticipated time of the year by kids and adults alike, the time for fun where all layers of society get together in the streets to dance and have fun.
Soon as I got caught by fun, music and colours I imagined to create a girl, named Guadeloupe, to embody the spirit of those places.
