My name is Nayda Hernandez, wife to my supportive hubby and mother to two amazing kids. William & Esme are the W.E. in my sugar art and the reason I started this wonderful love affair with sugar art. I had worked 18+ years in the medical field but once I had my children I chose to be a stay-at-home mom. My interest in fondant started when I attended a birthday party with my children and saw all the beautiful fondant decorations on the sweets. In 2014 I started playing around with fondant and tried my hand at decorating cakes and since then have been making both of my children’s birthday cakes. I have made several cakes but what I truly enjoy is creating figures and that has been my focus this year. I’ve been fortunate to learn so many new things from so many wonderful artists and look forward to continuing this sugar journey I’ve started on.

About my piece:
I have always been fascinated by fantasy, whether it be fairies, mermaids or elves. I chose to do an angel sitting quietly above the water with a few elves and some small animals coming out to greet her. This is the first time I’ve incorporated wafer paper and isomalt in a piece and I’m quite happy with how it turned out.
