I’m not a fan of Horror, not even of Halloween, so choosing the Creature From The Black Lagoon was me thinking ‘how scary can a monster created in 1954 be?’. I even watched the movie, which is a great testimony to a time in film production before digital effects and green screens. It leaves today’s viewers feeling nostalgic and a bit amused rather than clinging to the edge of their seats in horror and suspense like its audiences in the 50s. My favourite part while working on my piece was creating the tactile, textured armoured scales and gills from white sugarpaste and seeing them come to life with layers and layers of airbrushing.
