Happy birthday Melanie

If there was a cake that everything went wrong, this one was it. I was still able to pull off a half way decent cake but this was not was I was going for. Really wanted to make something extra special for my daughter’s 30th bday so I was a little upset. She seemed happy with it. Pistachio cake (per bday girl’s request), pistachio filling, citrus smbc & MMF. Gumpaste gladiolus since it is the August birth flower with calla lilies & filler flowers.

June, you cannot even imagine the mess underneath those stripes. I was in tears. Didn’t help that I woke up Monday morning (the day I was doing the decorating) was really bad migraine and did not have my prescription. So it all went downhill from there.

Wow, Goreti! This turned out awesome!! I can’t see any flaws in it unless you hid them behind in the back. I would have loved to have received a cake like this. It’s just gorgeous!

Actually Linda the mess is underneath the stripes. I covered it (or tried to) in fondant and then I was going to do a few stripes & such. When I saw the way the fondant was ripped all over the place I knew I had to rethink the design (after a few tears & panicking-lol). It is SMBC underneath so it would have come off if I tried to remove the fondant so….. I smoothed it out as best I could and then just cut those stripes & decided to cover the entire cake that way. I’ve had issues with heat & humidity before but not as badly as this one. It just seemed to be melting.
